'Young adult fiction (YA) is a category of fiction written for readers from 12 to 18 years of age. While the genre is targeted to adolescents, approximately half of YA readers are adults.'
I bet I sound like an old lady writing like that... HA! Nice try. Although it is very likely to be my writing, the above line, is in fact the definition of YA fiction in wikipedia! (you can look it up).
It is kinda hard to imagine adults reading books written for teenagers though. It reminds of those bubble blowing toys. They're meant for little kids but you're more likely to see a grown up having fun with it. Not that it's a bad thing, because there is 'no age for the heart'. Am I right?
So for all you Young 'Adults' out there, here are 5 YA Fantasy series you must read.
Y'all blow your bubbles!
1. Infernal Devices
Cassandra Clare

Books: Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, Clockwork Princess.
Passion. Power. Secrets. Enchantment. The Shadowhunters of the Victorian Age delve into all of these—in addition to darkness and danger—in the Infernal Devices trilogy
For starters, I 'binge-read' this series from the first page to the last. Oh my god! I mean- Victorian London, Will Herondale and Cassandra Clare! It can't really get any better. There's no more room for it to get better. It is sky-rocketing good!
To be honest, it's not just this series, I've read all the series written by Cassandra Clare and may I say that I have not even come close to disliking even one of them!

2. Red Queen
Victoria Aveyard

Books: Red Queen, Glass Sword, King's Cage, War Storm
This is a world divided by blood—red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. Fearful of Mare's potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance.
This series was an impulse buy. But now, I cannot imagine not having read it. Fortunately I started reading this series after the last book had been released. I'm sure I would have lost my mind if not for that. One of my favourite parts of this series is that there is a mix of modern and vintage aesthetics.
If you particularly like post-apocalyptic stories then this is definitely a must read.

3. Ash Princess
Laura Sebastian

Books: Ash Princess, Lady Smoke, Ember Queen.
Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, was murdered before her eyes. On that day, the Kaiser took Theodosia's family, her land, and her name, Theo was crowned Ash Princess.
For ten years Theo has been a captive in her own palace. She is powerless, surviving in her new world by burying the girl she was deep inside.
One night, the Kaiser forces her to do the unthinkable. With blood on her hands, she realizes that surviving is no longer enough.
For ten years, the Ash Princess has seen her land pillaged and her people enslaved. That all ends here.
The cover of the book is so pretty isn't it? I can promise that the book is way prettier than the cover. This series was also an impulsive read, well it was more desperate because no one wants to be bored during summer break, but I fell in love with this series. From the titles to the characters and settings, I can promise you, there is nothing you will dislike.

4. Six of Crows
Leigh Bardugo

Books: Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .
Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
If you read only one series from this list, I would suggest you read this one. I myself read both books in a single sitting. Every time I go back and read it, I fall in love with it all over again. I feel like anything I say could undermine the actual value. Let me warn you though, you could get seriously hooked!

5. Folk of the Air
Holly Black

Books: The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King, The Queen of Nothing.
Jude was seven when she and her sisters see their parents murdered in front of them. The terrifying assassin abducts all three girls to the world of Faerie, where Jude is tormented by Fae for being mortal. As Jude grows older, she realises that she will need to take part in the dangerous deceptions of the fey to ever truly belong. But the stairway to power is fraught with shadows and betrayal.
I read this series very recently. It took me three days to finish three books and I could barely think of anything else for that time. You can safely say I was a little obsessed. I wish I could go back to a time when I hadn't read the series so that I can read it again for the first time. So all of you out there who haven't read it yet, give it shot.
I've also written a detailed review of The Cruel Prince here.
